You’re going to come and see me tonight, I just know it. You’re going to tell me that you couldn’t be more proud of the person I have become, and you’re going to thank me for taking care of my Dad for you when nobody else seems willing. You’re going to tell me that even though my head is a mess and my body is a wreck, you know that I will come out the other side stronger, more complete and just a better person. You’re going to tell me that I have what it takes to improve myself and just need to set myself to it, but you’re also going to tell me that if I never changed in my life you’d love me all the same.
I’m going to tell you the same thing that I always do; I hope I don’t disappoint you between now and the next time we meet, I miss you like a hole in the head and I would give anything to have another meal with you at the head of the table. Then, despite my best efforts to stay where I am and spend my time with you, I’m going to wake up and I’m just going to miss you until the next time I see you. I hope it’s soon.
I miss you more than I can put into words, Nonno. Happy 78th birthday, you incredible human being. I love you with all of my heart.
